Crisis in the D.R. Congo: What’s Happening and Why It Matters

Live Zoom Event
Friday, March 21

1:00pm Eastern | 12:00pm Central | 10:00am Pacific

The violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is escalating—but this isn’t new, it has been happening for 30+ years.

Since January, more than 773 people have been killed and 3,000 wounded, with little to no medical aid available. Seven million people have already been displaced, fleeing for their lives.

For decades, the international community has ignored what is happening in the DRC. Violence that is driven by exploitation.

Join us for an urgent conversation to learn about what is happening on the ground and how we can support our partners at the Panzi Foundation. We’ll talk with Equal Exchange Congo Coffee Project founder Beth Ann Caspersen, as well as a representative from Panzi Hospital, about what we can do as consumers, advocates, and people who refuse to ignore the harsh realities in the Congo. We hope you’ll join us.

In 2011, we started the Congo Coffee Project to partner with the Panzi Hospital and Nobel Peace Prize-winning surgeon and human rights activist Dr. Denis Mukwege.

For decades, Dr. Mukwege has treated survivors of sexual violence while advocating for lasting peace and offering not just treatment but a path forward.

Using funds from the sale of our Congo Coffee Project coffee, we are able to create a direct link between consumers and this important movement for justice and peace in the Congo.
